2014: February 25-26; July 29-30

West Virginia Bar Exam Format and Administration

The West Virginia bar exam is a two day exam.  On day one, two Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions and six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) questions are given.  On day two, the Multistate Bar Exam is administered. Click here for more information about AmeriBar's Multistate Bar Review Course.

West Virginia Bar Exam Scoring Information

Scores are combined.  A 270 (scaled) is a passing score.

MPRE Requirements

In addition to successfully passing the West Virginia Bar Exam, an applicant must attain a score of 75 on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination.  The MPRE must be taken within 25 months of application for admission.  Click here for more information about AmeriBar's Free Online MPRE Review Course.

West Virginia Bar Exam Essay Subjects

The Multistate Essay Examination is a three hour exam administered during the West Virginia Bar Exam.  Six essay questions are to be answered according to the laws of West Virginia.  Questions on the MEE will be taken from at least six of the subjects listed below.  Some questions may contain issues in more than one subject.

Applicants may use MBE score if taken in previous 13 months and applicant passed the exam.

West Virginia Bar Reciprocity

Attorneys who have actively practiced for five of the last seven years may be eligible to apply for admission to practice in West Virginia by reciprocity (Rule 4.0) if also admitted to practice in one of the following jurisdictions (please note that this list is subject to change):
